»With my ceramics I want to set an example so that we can reflect on the regenerating power of spiritual values, as they are conveyed to humanity through myths and religions. Every epoch, every society needs a myth. It guides our thoughts and actions.«
»A humanity without myths loses its orientation and the meaning of its existence. For me, keeping this memory alive, is not only the task of religion but also the task of an artist.«
ArtistSince 2010, ceramics for E.C.A. France have been created in the Zoubair Selimi studio in Sousse according to designs by Alexander Schwarz using a special raku technique developed by Zoubair Selimi. Through various uses of different calligraphic signs and religious symbols, the artist tries to create interreligious references and to make them visible.
CeramicsAll work pieces are designed by Alexander Schwarz and formed and shaped on a clay panel in collaboration with Zoubair Selimi. The still humid clay panel is then cut into several pieces, which are reassembled and mounted on a wooden plate after firing.
The firing process can only be influenced to a limited extent with the raku technique, so that each piece is an original. By using colouring oxides, mostly iron and copper oxides, the metallized colors are created on the surface of the ceramic relief.
TechniquesSince 2015, Alexander Schwarz has been working with the Bella Terra ceramic studio in Tunis. In collaboration with Samia Achour, unique ceramic bas-reliefs have been created in various techniques according to his designs. The ceramic workshop Bella Terra was founded in 2007 by Samia Achour. She received her education at the University of Arts in Tunis and has continuously perfected herself in various ceramic techniques.
CeramicsE.C.A. France publishes graphic portfolios and fine art prints by selected international artists, such as James Coignard, Bram Bogart and Pierre Marie Brisson. These artists have been represented by E.C.A. France for many years in numerous exhibitions and international art or book fairs. Since 2010 Alexander Schwarz creates ceramics for E.C.A. France.
Ceramics are formed using different techniques based on specific manufacturing processes. Over the years, each ceramics workshop has developed its own manufacturing processes and refined certain techniques. The different techniques are presented here.
The ceramics by Alexander Schwarz from the Zubair Selimi studio with the French title "Par le feu la nature se régénère tout entière" consist of twenty different ceramic reliefs in a limited edition of eight copies each. The ceramics from the ceramic workshop Bella Terra are exclusively produced as unique pieces.
