Alexander Schwarz

»With my ceramics I want to set an example so that we can reflect on the regenerating power of spiritual values, as they are conveyed to humanity through myths and religions. Every epoch, every society needs a myth. It guides our thoughts and actions.«

»A humanity without myths loses its orientation and the meaning of its existence. For me, keeping this memory alive, is not only the task of religion but also the task of an artist.«

Artist
Zoubeir Selimi

Ceramics studio Zoubair Selimi

Since 2010, ceramics for E.C.A. France have been created in the Zoubair Selimi studio in Sousse according to designs by Alexander Schwarz using a special raku technique developed by Zoubair Selimi. Through various uses of different calligraphic signs and religious symbols, the artist tries to create interreligious references and to make them visible.

Manufacturing process

All work pieces are designed by Alexander Schwarz and formed and shaped on a clay panel in collaboration with Zoubair Selimi. The still humid clay panel is then cut into several pieces, which are reassembled and mounted on a wooden plate after firing.

The firing process can only be influenced to a limited extent with the raku technique, so that each piece is an original. By using colouring oxides, mostly iron and copper oxides, the metallized colors are created on the surface of the ceramic relief.

Techniques
Samia Achour

She received her education at the University of Arts in Tunis and has continuously perfected herself in various ceramic techniques.
